Dysons. The DC07? Or the DC14?
First let me regale you with a story from one of my Comp students. After seeing my Dyson pics (I posted them on my school website and let my Comp kids see them), he showed them to his mom. Her birthday was coming up, and she wanted that vaccuum! So he bought it for her (very nice present from a kid, don't you think? I think he may have gone in on it with his brothers. Anyway.) They vaccuumed the basement of their house with it first. They pulled up loads of white pet hair...and they don't have a white pet. It's hair from whoever lived in that house before them...two and a half years ago. Eyuch!!
I went with the DC14 rather than the DC07 because the salesman explained to me that the 14 is the brand-new model, and has more cyclones than the 07, so it (supposedly) has more suction than the 07s. However, all the reviews that I've found on the net are for the 07s and people love them. So I'm not sure that the cyclone thingie is really true--or if it's just a redesign. Because there has been a slight redesign between the two models. My 14 is fairly lightweight and easy to push across the floor. Some people complain that the 07s are hard to push. Also, button for the canister on the 14 is in a good place. I did read that some owners of the 07 did not like the placement of the button.
If you're considering getting a Dyson and you're on a budget, let me tell you what you need to know. First, choose 07 or 14; like I said, I don't definitively know the difference and I haven't bothered to research it. I only have the salesperson's word. The yellow Dyson is the base model, and the only difference as you move up in color or name WITHIN THE DC LINE is the number of accessories it comes with. For regular vaccuming, the yellow one should be fine. It has a hose that comes out so you can get the corners next to the baseboard, etc.
BUT the Dyson does not lean down very far and it has a big head--meaning that you can't get it under the bed, etc. If it's important to you to get under the bed, etc., then you need to get the next model up (red, I believe), which includes a "low floor tool" (I think that's what it's called). Or, alternately, compare prices and see what it costs to purchase the low floor tool seperately; I know you can buy it seperately. The Animal (purple) is the model I bought. It came with a low floor tool, a few other nozzles that I know I will rarely use, and a few carpet treatment soaps and stuff.
I did use one of those aforementioned nozzles, though, on a chair that I bought for $30 at the thrift store. The chair looked nice but stunk to high heaven. I tried wiping it with a rag but that was ruining the fuzzy fabric. I Febrezed the hell out of it. Finally, I thought I'd Dyson it. The chair did not appear to change much, but lo! The stink is gone. I guess it was dust, skin particles, and who knows what else that had gotten down in the upholstery--and the Dyson got it out.
I also recall reading one entry on epinions from a guy that said as soon as his baby daughter began to crawl, and she was coming up off the carpet covered in disgustingness, he knew he needed a Dyson. I think that about says it all. I have lain on my carpet, sat down there with the dogs, all sorts of interaction with the carpet since the Dyson came into our lives. And you know what else is funny? The DOGS now lay on the carpet. They almost never did that before, always preferring to lay on their beds (which are frequently washed).
God. I can't think of anything to blog about, and then Chris asks me to blog about the Dyson, and here I've got a YOOGE entry. I am growing more pathetic every day!
