iMac vs eMac
Well, I went with the iMac because I happened to have enough money for it, but otherwise I would have gone with Macintosh's eMac (educational mac). I have screwed around with one and it is in fact very very cool looking in person. The screen is much larger than a traditional oldstyle iMac, and it has the exact same guts as my new lamp-like iMac (except the eMac has a regular cd drive and not a cd-rw) for about $400 less. Very neato. I recommend it for anyone who wants a newer, faster mac (700 mhz) but cannot afford a fancy new iMac or tower. I gotta say, it was a hard choice for me simply because the new eMac is so neato looking and rare-ish. They've only recently become available, you see. You can buyem at colleges or online from Apple if you are at least loosely affiliated with a school.

The new iMac seems to be working out okay for me so far. I definitely notice a difference in speed between my 450mhz cube and the 700mhz iMac. I hope this computer lasts a while before it freaks out and starts "barfing up kernel errors." My friend Scott has agreed that I have an adverse effect on OSX and myteriously cause it to "barf up kernel errors."

My dad has evaluated the new iMac: "It looks like Johnny 5 from Short Circuit."
