Phooey
Yesterday I told HR the answer to "Who hired you" although really, I'm technically not hired until my transcripts show up at WhoHiredYou's mailbox. Which they won't, because my transcripts show that I didn't graduate, so it'd be suicide to have them sent. Nevertheless, I made it through HR and a brief encounter with WhoHiredMe without any questions about these transcripts. I'm just going to keep trying to pretend that all is well and that *SU are just slowpokes for as long as I can. Maybe I can keep on pretending this until the situation is rectified. Maybe not. Maybe I'll lose my job 2 weeks into the semester for all I know. We'll see. As of now it's working; they think the school is just slow and don't suspect me to be a fraud. In truth, I believe that I won't lose my job no matter what; my lawyer could explain this to my new employers and it would be okay--embarrassing and unpleasant--but okay.
My schedule for the coming semester is, I think, suspiciously nice. They gave it to me about three weeks ago and I'm only now realizing how suspiciously nice it is. I teach three classes, MWF, at 11, 12, and 2. Aren't these the hours people kill for? Why did I get them? I hope they're "buttering me up" for better things. I suspect that the fellow who teaches the TW classes here (there are only 2 TW classes offered, they alternate semesters) doesn't love teaching them. He's some sort of, oh, I don't know, 18c lit fellow or something. I hope they're buttering me up to teach those courses. One is undergrad and the other is undergrad/MA hybrid. I'm totally qualified for those!
Something else weird is going on here. Tom's office is fully furnished with stuff that all matches (big wraparound desk, bookshelves, chairs, filing cabinets, coathooks in the wall--all matches!!) and a computer with a 10gig hd and a pentium 3 processor. That's a far cry from what the VAPs at our old school got (Shelley, I'm looking at you). Isn't that weird? This is just a state school. What's up here? And my office? Well, mine is in the 'old' building across the street and it's a two-person office, but I was told that my key is being delayed to me until next week because they're still setting up all the new furniture in there. It will all match, as well. Some sort of cherry-laminate stuff. To which I say, WhatThaFuk? What is going on here? Did this school win the lottery? Does this boon have something to do with being in the Atlanta metro, that like, I don't know, the wealth of Atlanta overflows into the universities in it? I am so confused. I expected to be thrown into an office with ten grad students. I wonder if their furniture all matches, too.
