Bummer for YOU!

I believe a few of you started classes today. Bummer for YOU! This is my week two. I know that doesn't really make that much of a difference, really--it's not like I'm on week four, or something--but I'm trying to feel superior to you, so just let me for Chrissake!!

This class I am teaching is a little stressful for me. It's a 2000-level course which is an honor, because I have only an MA, you know. There are several MA Only degree-holders working here, but of them, I am the only one who has to teach no comp whatsoever. As that has gotten around the department, more people have looked at me strangely and/or hatefully. Eh, who cares.

But it does add stress; the woman who manned this class for the past few semesters detests me (she is no longer allowed to teach the class--they told her she needed a break from it and to teach something different for a while). She is so rude to me in the halls it is unbelieveable. But here's a funny thing: in an woman's caucus meeting a few weeks ago, she made a statement to the group and then turned to her friend and asked, "Did that sound stupid?" You know me, I'd been contributing to the meeting (I can't resist contributing at meetings). But what made it really funny? This class that she had and that I have now? I won't give the true title of it incase it gets googled, but essentially it's "Speaking in Public Forums." Shouldn't she be over that near-crippling fear by now? I mean, if she's teaching it and all? Aack. Whatever.

Well, I am not afraid to speak in public forums, but I've never tried to teach others not to be afraid. This is tough. So, I'm making the whole thing up as I go. I developed a course packet to guide the class, but as far as day-to-day lectures and exercises, I'm up a tree. Today I am trying to develop an exercise that will help soothe jittery nerves. Anybody got suggestions?

And by the way:

The picture kept crashing my blog, but nevertheless, I am
"Literature."
Your strength is your ability to understand human
nature, and you tend to equate truth and beauty
with humanity. You get along well with Poetry
and Drama.

What form of art are you?
