My New Year's Resolution

I actually started laying the foundation for this resolution around the big Thanksgiving sales. And here it is:

This year, I resolve to wear nothing but comfortable clothes and shoes, all the time, unless it is entirely unavoidable due to circumstances beyond my control (ie, bridesmaid dress).

Tom has called this "The Soft Pants Resolution." I hope I have better luck with this one than last year's (not cursing).

Basically, my clothing criteria is now this: If I can't comfortably and without prior notice fall asleep in said clothing, then that clothing doesn't belong in my life. This has meant the donation of a dozen pairs of heels (I have a couple left--it is possible to find comfortable heels--rare, but possible) and dozens of pairs of constricting pants and shirts. I'm all about pants with some give now. Corduroys and tailored sweatpants in the winter and khakis and billowy linen pants in the summer. This means my jeans wearage has gone down--most jeans? well, I wouldn't want to go to bed in them. Gone are shirts that require any kind of special or pinchy undergarment to be worn. Gone are pants and dresses that require thongs. Gone are dresses and skirts that only look right with hose.

I tell you--and remember, I started this process around Thanksgiving, so I'm actually several weeks in--this is the happiest I've been in years. So often we lament that we'd like to go to work in our pajamas. Well, I've made it happen. I've made it happen.
