Lost
Chris asks if I gleaned anything from the Lost DVD set that helps me decipher what's going on so far this season. The answer is, No, Not Really.
I'll mention a few cool things and if you guys have any connections to add, add them. If you want super-cool connections visit TWOP.
1. Hurley. He asks Walt a joke in the first season: "What did one snowman say to the other snowman?" In last week's episode, Desmond finally figures out that Locke is not "him" when he asks "What did one snowman say to the other snowman" and Locke does not know the answer. This seems to indicate to me that Hurley is "him".
Also, in the ep where Jin is sent to be a hitman for his father-in-law, he bursts into the man's house, and for a split second, you see a little girl watching tv. It's Hurley on the TV. I guess it's footage of his lotto win.
Also, in Hurley's episode, he acquires a box company. And Locke, of course, is a regional collections manager a box company. Sigh.
2. Locke plays backgammon with Walt, holds up the pieces, dark and light. Later, at the caves, Jack finds a black stone and a white one in a stachel on a corpse. The french woman mentions the black rock, and it turns out to be a ship washed up on the island. Corny as it is, I wonder if the island is a giant yinyang island. It seems that our gang is okay, mentally. I think they washed up on the light side of the island. But maybe the people in the tail section washed up on the dark side of the island and became mentally damaged?
3. Have you guys noticed how often polar bears show up in Walt's life? He's looking at a comic with them, he gets attacked by one, his dad gives him a stuffed one in the most recent episode. What is up with that?
4. The numbers. 4 8 15 16 23 42. Well, by now we've realized that the numbers correspond to all sorts of things in the show. 16 is how long Danielle’s transmission was running. Flight 815. Charlie is selling copier model 815. There are some others, something with Claire and her psychic but I can't think of it now. I do not know what's up with the numbers. A blogger has determined that the numbers could be gps coordinates. Click.
5. Many of the names mean something, obviously. John Locke, Jack Shepard, Sawyer. Those we have all probably figured out. Ones you may not have clued in to are
--Sayid (Edward Said, pronounced Sayid) Said was the philosopher who worked extensively in stuyding Orientalism, which is the misconceptions westerners tend to have about the eastern world. Also wrote extensively about imperialism. I did not make this connection on my own. My big brain husband made the connection.
--Kate, who is Katherine. The name Katherine is a name that's meaning has not changed over the years. It means "innocent".
6. The shark that is attacking Sawyer has a tattoo on his tail. Some say it matches the logos on the goods in Desmond's pantry. I do not know. I'm not yet convinced.
7. I am also not convinced that Boone is dead. It just doesn't make sense for him to be, story-wise, as far as I can tell. His BODY might be dead, but it might not. Remember, Jack's father (whose name was Christian Shepard, btw) was not in his casket. I am not sure Boone is in his grave. Of course there is the really for real dead Ranger who they dug up, so who knows.
8. Lastly, no matter how they deny it, Evie and Dom are dating. You don't walk like this with someone you are "just friends" with.

Oh, there's much, much to be figured out.

The shark might be part of the island's "security system". Also, the company is called DHARMA, and their logo more than hints at some yin-yang, black and white, good and evil stuff.
Here's the logo.

I'm afraid that if I delve too deep into the site Scott linked to, I will learn too much and not be so amazed each week when I watch! Scott, if you come back to these comments, tell me what parts of that site I can look in without getting too "spoiled".
Chris, that's cool about the symbol. So I was sort of on the right track with my idea that it might be a yinyang island dealie?
I love this show. I cannot WAIT until Wednesday.

Tif: depends upon how far in you are. Most of the episode guides should be safe. The character pages should be fine, as should the timeline (which you seem to have figured out).

BTW, Tif: when at work, make sure you put that hyphen in between "pink" and "dog."
Ahem.
