No novel this month.
I had hoped to finish my Nanowrimo novel this month, but in truth I haven't written a word. As soon as November ended, I stopped working on it and haven't laid one more keystroke.
I did, however, read a novel. Usually I can chug through a novel in a week, week and a half. Two to three days if it's just some crap airport novel that comes nowhere near 'literature'. But this one was literatureish. It is called Everything is Illuminated and it left me pensive and angry at blurb writers for the sake of the author. Have any of you read it?

I haven't read it, but it's on my list. Should I bump it up to the top of the list?

Mmm. Well, it has two narrators...two storylines, sort of. You'll see. One of the sets of storylines is MUCH MUCH better than the other set. So, if it were possible for me to say, "Bump that half to the top of the list" I would. The remaining half? Eh.
They talk about the author like he's the second coming in the blurbs. It's just not true. If he were as completely faboo as the blurbs say, BOTH halves of the storyline would be totally engaging, I think.
But it was a good, good book and left me thinking about it for a few days afterward, which almost never happens to me. Usually I'm like, "Hm! Well, that was a neat book" and then I forget all about it. But this one I continued to think about. Not like that flaccid "Secret Life of Bees" that I read early in the month. Blech.

Good to know; I shall read 50% knowing that I'll like it and 50% knowing that I'll hate it.
I disliked Bees too, by the way. My mom sent it to me because she loved it; I had to force myself to finish reading it.
