I Love My Husband Day

I just thought I'd take a moment to tell my blog-lurking husband how much I love him. This little message is inspiried by Teeny's marriage story.

I've been excruciatingly sick for the past ten days or so. I've been trying not to be a brat about it, especially since I'm not vomiting...but although I'm sort of emotionally strong and sort of psychologically stable, I'm not THAT much of either, and this mutating has been not only wreaking havok on my body but my mind, too. I am a wreck. My classes have been a joke for the past two weeks. I've totally lost control of what I'm doing in there, and it shows. Thank goodness my rehire for next year is based on evals of last semester and not this one.

I can't prep for my classes. So how do you teach when you are too tired (I go to bed at 8:30) and queasy/weak (reading/thinking give me migraines) to prep? Well, your dear sweet husband preps your classes for you and then tries to TELL you what to do. Those of you who have taught college (and that's almost all of you) will instantly recognize that this strategy doesn't work.

I get faint in front of the room. I can't think quickly enough to discipline my rowdy students (I've got one or two in each of my classes). I can't recall everything I need to tell them and I can't remember the answers to my own quizzes. This is because despite going to bed at 8:30 I am sleep deprived (the sounds of anything, including the dogs' snoring, wakes me up) and I am famished. I have not had any food cravings. Instead, I have had aversions. There is almost nothing that I can eat without fighting the urge to barf. Even water tastes bad to me. It is very difficult to consume 1800 calories a day (up from my usual 1200--too low, my doctor said) when the idea of eating anything repulses you.

And through all this, Tom has been an absolute saint. He's driven me to work, and hugged me a lot, and gone to bed with me at 8:30 (although he sits up and reads--jeez, I don't blame him) and just generally been incredible.

So, there it is. I love you, Tom Turkey. I mean, I know I tell you that plenty, but now it's been PUBLISHED. Now it's official. :)
