Let's try it again, shall we?

12 weeks, 2 days. Or, whatever that ticker up there says

According to my count, I'm 12 wks, 2 days. But my fetal measurements indicate 10 weeks 6 days (or whatever it is that ticker up there says). Whatever the case, I thought I'd brief you guys on my mutation to date.

Yes. I am being mutated.

I have been desperately thirsty for weeks now. I guzzled water nonstop for a while--really. Like I'd just come back from a hike! But getting up to pee every 30 minutes (I'm not kidding) was not going to be feasable when classes start. So now I alternate glasses of water with glasses of gatorade. I am drinking about a half-gallon of gatorade a day and I don't know how much water. The gatorade is apparantly satisfying Wiggly's need for...something...and now I have to pee less frequently. Yay!

Ah, yes. Wiggly. That is what we've been calling the baby ever since we saw him wiggling on the screen at the ultrasound appointment two weeks ago. He was wiggling his arms and legs and generally gyrating like a hula dancer. And no, of course we don't really know if it's a boy yet. But I think it is.

My nice, perfect B-cup, store-bought boobies have balooned up to C's. And they're going to get stretch marks! I didn't get stretch marks with the surgery, and that enlargement literally happened in an hour. But this natural growing? Ugh. Marks are coming. I can tell because my skin is acting the same way it does on my hips/butt when I'm developing new marks. It looks rashy for while and then big purple ravines develop. Right now I'm in the rashy stage. I'm hoping to hold it there for as long as possible. Plus, they're HEAVY and I can feel them yanking on the skin a few inches below my collarbone. I now love to wear sports bras because I do not want my nipples staring at the ground like Britney Spears' do.

What else? Well, apparently there's this stuff your body releases when preggers called Relaxin. It makes your tendons, ligaments, and joints very stretchy and pliable. I was under the impression that this stuff didn't get released until late in the pregnancy, but I am swimming in it now. How do I know? Well, the aricles say be careful when stretching or doing yoga because the Relaxin means that you will be able to stretch really far, and only after you've done the movement and relaxed will you realize you've hurt yourself. Mm hm. Well, I've hurt myself. A bunch. For instance, there's this simple lower back yoga stretch. You lay on your back with your knees up and arms out. Turn your head one way, drop your knees the other way. You guys know the one. I can do this normally, but "dropping" my knees really means "thinking them down into position." I did this yesterday and my knees dropped like a stone to the mat and I felt no stretch at all. Same with all the stretchy yoga poses I tried. And a few minutes later, I was achy all over.

Mmm? Uh, oh yeah. I've gained ten lbs and am wearing maternity pants already. Isn't that pathetic? But my real pants won't fit. It's not Wiggly that's taking up all the room. It can't be. It's ME. It's my ten lbs. Eh, oh well.

Ouch. Do you feel sore like after a work-out (muscle soreness) or is it more like you've torn a ligament?

It feels like ligament tears. I did some reading and found out that, contrary to my impression, Relaxin is at it's peak between weeks 10 and 14. So, I'm right on schedule.

Think I'll just sit on the couch for the next few weeks and not do any exercise.

Oh, poor you. This is why I could never have a baby; I'm way too wimpy.

I've been curious about how your comfy clothes doctrine had been going. Does the pregnancy just mean you get to wear even comfier clothes? Where does one find stylish maternity duds? (Remember Amy? Amy bought stuff she saw Rachel wear on Friends. I love Amy.)
