Georgia Real Estate

So, Tom got his tenure-line job here and I have no doubt that he'll pass 3-year review with no trouble whatsoever. He is so smart. I'm not shy at all about bragging on him. He is a true academic. People like me and Chris? We were just playing Academic for a while. And I'm still playing Academic--but I'm not *really* one. I'd rather read gossip mags than talk about Technical Writing or pedagogical theory any day. And that, my friends, is the difference. I am not passionate about teaching English. I enjoy it, but not enough to say I want to do it forever. But gossip mags? I enjoy those enough to confidently say I will read them forever.

But, since Tom's got the job, and we like it here, my parents are planning on moving here in 2 years when my dad and mom (or as Teeny calls them, Rock and Suzette) retire. I'm the only kid, you know, and most of my family is gone. My mom's only close with her sister and one of her brothers--and the sister lives in Ogden and the brother in Baton Rouge. My mom's parents have died, so she feels no particular tie to Louisiana anymore. She'd rather be close to me than her brother. My dad's sisters' families have all moved close to the younger ones in those brances--to Dallas and Nashville--and my dad's mom recently died (his dad died before I was born) so he feels no real need to stay in Louisiana either. So my parents want to come to Carrollton. Well, Bremen, actually, which is where Tom and I live.

I think that's great, because I wouldn't want them to grow old so far away from me. And besides, if we succeed in having kiddos, well, we'll need babysitters .

Dad told me to start looking for a house for them now, because he's so excited. You know what? Shopping for a home for people who are growing old is challenging. They want a home on .5 to 1 acres, not in a subdivision but in a neighborhood, one story, close to shopping and medical, and of course that fits their frugal price range. Hm! That's actually kind of tough!

So that's some news. God my life is dull, isn't it? I mean, that's all I have to report. Not, "And we found one and blah blah!" Just, "We're looking."

But Spring Break is next week! Whee! I've just been holding on by my fingernails this week, trying to make it to Friday.
