The Biggest Loser and 750 lb Man

Yesterday I watched something like 12 hours of The Biggest Loser marathon on Bravo network. It was amazing. Those people came in fat and left so fit. They didn't even look like the same human beings by the end of it.

So I thought I'd cap it off by watching The 750-lb Man (on Discovery I think). He hadn't been out of bed in 7 years. He didn't seem very smart and he just generally pissed me off because here he is being lifted with a crane in the aquarium's whale sling into a flat-bed truck to be brought to the doctor, and yet he's forcefully insisting that he can eat whatever he wants as long as he does it in moderation. And I'm like, "Well Buddy, obviously you haven't done a very good job of that and you need help."

He has a toothless but seemingly sweet wife and a mentally deficient sister. He kept saying, "I have to do this so that I can keep taking care of them. If I'm not here, who else will?" And I keep thinking, "Buddy, they've been taking care of YOU for 7 years. I don't know what valuable services other than companionship you think you're providing. You can't even roll over by yourself."

Then, at the clinic, the first or second day, he began snottily demanding hamburgers instead of his salad with ham. I was just fed up with him. Just FED UP. I started openly snarking on him. I'd seen an episode of this show before and the woman they were profiling broke my heart. I was totally rooting for her. But this guy? Agh. He pissed me off SO MUCH that I was insulting the TV screen.

And you know what? He DIED.

HE DIED.

Talk about feeling like a horrible, horrible person! Oh, gawd, I felt awful.

I saw the same show last night!! But I missed the last 10 mins... so THAT's what happened. I guess I'm not surprised. And I have to admit I was utterly revolted. I felt sorry for his wife, because she was so deluded.

I caught a few episodes of The Biggest Loser 2 Biggest Marathon yesterday. We had watched some of the shows when they originally aired on NBC, and you can't help but root for these people.

Most of them are nowhere near as whiny as some of "celebrities" on the Celebrity Fitness Challenge on VH1. Man, so I dislike some of those people.

And I think this 750-lb Man is probably the worst of the bunch because it sounds like no matter how much this guy weighed he'd still be an asshole.

BTW, if you're interested, the new issue of People profiles (if you can call it that) 10 people who lost a lot of weight with surgery or crash diets. One guy was over 500 lbs.

I am interested in the People mag. I'll get it today! I like it when the people finally say, "You know what? I'm sick of this!" and succeed in changing their lives, be it weight or education or smoking or whatever. It's inspirational.

750 lb Guy was not at that point. In fact, in researching him today on the net (yes, I'm bored) I discovered that he turned down gastric bypass because he found out he would have to stop eating fried fish and fried chicken! He said he'd rather exercise, which he would do by shrugging his shoulders to his favorite music. My lord, if the insurance is willing to pay, and you weigh 750 lbs, DO IT, dude!

I just realized that I wrote "...lost a lot of weight with surgery or crash diets" when I meant to write "without surgery or crash diets".

    That's a big difference.

And here's the Half Their Size: Celeb Edition! I was completely shocked with Peter Jackson's weightloss. And, let's face it, if Jack Osbourne can get his shit together, we don't really have any excuses for not exercising.

Is this show running again? I must add it to my DVR trashy TV list: it's what I watch when I exercise. (Thus far I've seen every episode of the Gauntlet II. I need some new garbage TV).

Biggest Loser is about to start a new season, isn't it? Maybe tonight? I don't know.

"The 750 lb Man" will run again. Just keep your eyes open. Also tune in for "Half-ton Man", "Christie's Story", and "The 600 lb Woman". 600 lb Woman will make you cry and cheer for her. The others will lead you to the complete, devoted belief that those people are mentally ill.

Although nobody *deserves* to die, it sure sounds like this jerk was doing absolutely nothing to help himself out, no?
