La Chance a Das
That means "The luck of Das", who was apparently a very unlucky fellow in my dad's hometown. Instead of saying things about Murphy's Law, they said "La chance a Das" when things were ironic in a bad way.
Anyway, I'd like you to think back to the last time you actually WANTED to attend a faculty meeting. Do you remember? What? What do you mean, you've NEVER wanted to attend a faculty meeting? Yeah, that's what I thought. That is how life usually is. But today I am Das.
I WANTED to attend the faculty meeting taking place at 3:00 today. And do you know what? My car won't start! I have diagnosed the problem: a dead battery.
A few years ago, my dad gave me a self-contained car-jumper-offer. It's a big yellow box with jumper cables attached to it. And you know what? I can't find the darned thing anywhere. I think it must be in Tom's car, which is of course not here.
Gah. I can't believe I'm actually mad about this. Here is a true, bona-fide reason to skip work, and I'm bummed about it.

Hey, get this: I *like* faculty meetings most of the time. They make me feel important. Sorry you didn't get to go!
