Graduation (pt. 1)
Well, Tom and I graduated last night. Tom's advisor, Lisa Lewis, hooded me. Why did a virtual stranger hood me for my Master's, you ask? Because neither of my professors showed up. I was and wasn't surprised at the same time; I had been unable to get a solid "I'll be there" out of either of them.
Seems that W decided at the 11th hour that he should stay home with his wife, who recently had surgery. Well, valid enough. T went to a party instead of taking his place. A big miscommunication? Maybe, but the wife's surgery happened days ago; T should have stepped up then and said, "I'll be there because something could come up with your wife." I wonder if T's good friend Ia had anything to do with it; the last time that I asked T if she would be there, Ia interrupted and said "It doesn't really matter; there'll be SOMEONE there to do it. There's always some guy that nobody knows there to hood the leftovers." I kid you not.
I didn't really want to spend graduation crying and feeling like shit, but it looks like this school found one last way to stick it to me and make me feel small and insignificant. Thank you, Oklah**a State University English Department, Technical Writing Program for one last salt-rub, deep into the wounds I've been given in the past few years. Last night was the most significant night of my life so far; thank you for making it a night to remember.
I have decided that I don't give a crap if this entry is Googled and any prospective student sees any of this. If this TW Program is embarassed about not being there...well...then, they should have been there.
