My God, what was he thinking??
Tom and I spent the past two days digging up/chopping down about 12 spruce trees about 8 feet tall. The guy who lived here before (we affectionately call him "Whatta Idiot") and his wife (who we call "The Girl") planted, oh, about SIXTY Christmas trees on this lot. In a teardropy-triangly shape. Around the entire cleared area of the yard.

I tried to draw a picture of this in PhotoShop but it was too depressing. So let's try to envision it together. Our house is in the woods. You drive up a long windey drive in the woods. The drive just suddenly comes to an end when you suddenly encounter four eight-foot Christmas trees in your way. If you get out of the car and step to the side of the trees, you see the house about 100 feet ahead of you, and the cleared yard. The yard is for some reason is triangular, with the cars/end-of-driveway/four Christmas-trees being at one of the points and the yard getting wider as it gets to (and passes around the sides of) the house. Both of these legs of the triangle have between 15 and 35 eight-foot Christmas trees planted along them, blocking the view of the WOODS. Not of weirdo neighbors, or anything unpleasant to look at, but THE WOODS.

The trees are planted about three feet apart from each other on the right side, and the same on the left side, except on that side there are TWO rows of them, side by side. This picture shows some of the trees. At closing Whatta Idiot said, "Those trees cost me a pretty penny. You're really getting something there. I didn't realize they'd get so big, though. (chuckle, chuckle) I guess if you don't like em you can sell em at Christmas!"

He didn't realize TREES, spruce TREES, would get so big? That maybe they needed to be more than 3 feet apart? AND that doesn't even explain why he'd plant them around the ENTIRE triangular clearing, kind of rounding the corners of the triangle in the back so it's more of a teardrop shape. Who does that?? Who goes to the store and buys sixty spruce saplings? I think they're spruces, but for all I know they could be some kind of special Christmas tree breed. Who does that?? In the woods?? "You know, I just don't like the look of all these pine trees in the woods. I think I'll go get some different trees to try to conceal them." Who does that??
