National Novel Writing Month - NaNoWriMo

OMG.

This is what we've been waiting for, Chris. The time has come for all good men to come to the aid of their typewriters, or something. And Limon? This may be very important for you, too.

November is National Novel Writing Month. NaNoWriMo. The goal is to produce a 50,000 word novel (175 pages), starting on Nov 1 and ending on Nov 30. The goal is not to write something particularly GOOD, but rather to write a full-length novel as fast as possible.

I love this idea. It is hilarious! Excerpts from the site:

Quote:
Why do this? To actively participate in one of our era's most enchanting art forms! To write without having to obsess over quality. To be able to make obscure references to passages from your novel at parties. To be able to mock real novelists who dawdle on and on, taking far longer than 30 days to produce their work.

[...] begin your novel-planning procrastination by reading through all the great advice and funny stories in the forums. Post some stories and questions of your own. Get excited. Get nervous. Eat lots of chocolate and pamper yourself in preparation for the fiction-fueled escapade to come.

Starting November 1 we’re going to swap out your current, dowdy author profile for a space-age author profile that will be so beautiful it will make you weep for days afterwards. [...] This new author profile will have space for you to upload your work-to-date for word-count tracking purposes, it will also display a log of your progress and that of your Writing Buddies, and will generate many cool charts and graphs, very few of which are in any way essential to the event.

Now if THAT's not enough to get me to write a galldanged novel, I don't know what is. Chris, I'm addressing you personally, here: I fully expect you to participate in this with me. I'm busy, you're busy, whatever. You and I should do this. I am so gleeful remembering the days we'd dream of doing things like this in grad school that I feel 5 years younger at heart already! Let's do it, friend! P.S.: You don't have to, but if you don't, I'm going to turn up the fire under Limon, so you guys might have to work it out amongst yourselves. Limon, time to write The Clint Clause? Maybe. Maybe. That was the stumbling block all along: it was never to be a p0rno; it was to be a work of erotic fiction! Bwah!

I did Nanowrimo last November (actually, I cheated and took December too). I did finish something. I enjoyed doing it so much that I did it again in June/July. Now I have 600 pages (literally) of CRAP interspersed with paragraphs of genius (haha) that I need to edit. Maybe I should do Nanoeditmo??

By the way, I hope that you decide to do this. I want to read the rest of your YA novel. Since you won't be teaching next semester, I hope you'll have time to write and publish; I foresee great things for you, my dear. You have the best stories EVER--you really should write a memoir. I'd read it!!

Hmm. Maybe now would be a good time to start writing my book (even tho' it's not a novel).

Maybe I could write it in novel form?

I guess I could try to write a textbook in a month. Though, I hay have a stroke.
