Doing Better

I'm doing a lot better. I still haven't posted pictures of Ripple, but that's because I can barely look at them without crying. For some reason, it was therapeutic to post pictures of Penny after she died, but it's not working that way with Ripple.

We got a new greyhound on Thursday. Bessie was getting sadder and sadder--she didn't have anyone to talk to. So we went and got Chase. He is going to be 9 in April, which makes him very young compared to Bessie, who turned 14 this month. We've had a few problems with him, but we have high hopes that he will learn and settle in.

He made a very bad first impression on Bessie. Within moments of being here, he fell in the pool. In the deep end. Bess took one look at that, and you could practically see her roll her eyes and practically hear her say, "I've seen enough." She turned and went straight inside. She didn't even bother to watch as Tom hauled him out of the water.

I was very worried that we made a mistake in bringing him home, but I kept saying to Bess, "Well, at least he'll keep us entertained." As the days have gone by, however, it's become apparent that although she thinks he's kind of a dolt, she also thinks he's an okay guy.

He's a big fawn-colored greyhound. BIG. Big, like, as big as Deoji. His face has a little bit of light blonde and grey mixed in but not much. The result is that his face is exactly the color of pecan sandies. I do not often think of those cookies, but now I am craving them.

Congratulations on the new dog--I bet he's sweet. And I'm glad to hear you are feeling better.

P.S. My mom thought Deoji was a deer.

I tried to leave a comment earlier but there was a problem with Blogger and it got eaten.

It's a good thing you're feeling better because the new dog sounds like a handful, and I'm sure Bessie could use all the help she can get with him.
