On the Market
Well, Tom's on the market now. You know how it is. Sometimes a job is okay, but you need more than okay. Plus, although we have a lot of good friends here, the climate in the department seems as if it may be shifting in a way that's not a great fit for our personality types. So, off we go!
Tom's been The Ed Guy for the past two years, which as you all know is not what his degree is in. But he's learned and been happy to do all he can to fulfill this department's Ed needs. But if any of you are friends with your department's Ed Guy/Gal, you know that dealing with all that crap (secondary ed requirements from the state, the regents, the college of ed, a&s, your own department, curriculum and instruction department, it goes on and on) is VERY FRUSTRATING.
The thing is that he only just made this decision (based on some things that suddenly came to light) a few days ago. He has to work like a madman to meet the deadlines for many of the jobs. He'll get it done--I have no doubt of that--but it's kind of scary. I am so afraid that he won't get any good bites this round. And I really want to get out of here. It's hard for me to work and function in a place that I have already begun the mental divorce from. I feel like I'm in a state of limbo, you know?
Gotta go teach class soon; we're looking at an essay that I WROTE in answer to the paper prompt they're about to answer. Hand-holding? Yes. Do I care anymore? No. It's week 11 baby; I'm on cruise control.

Oh, you've spoken my mind! Good luck to Tom! (Does your department know, by the way, that he's on the market? I'm afraid to express any discontent EVER lest it negatively impact fake tenure review).

Btw, what are you going to do? Or does that largely depend on T's situation?

I'm just going with Tom. Wherever we wind up, I'll find something to do.
Yes, quite a bit of the department knows. There's a schism in the department, and the hardworking ones are getting shafted while the glamorous ones are getting all the glory. It's totally not cool.
Possibly the situation will rectify itself; possibly it won't. But Tom doesn't want to take the chance that it won't. We're outta here, baybee!
